Virginia Creed – in tune with dressage

A music teacher who rides dressage – what a wonderful combination. And so it has proved for Virginia Creed, who does or has done it all – compete, teach, judge and select.
Now based just outside Melbourne, we’ve learned that as a young girl Ginny rode at North Eastern Horse and Pony Club with wonderful teachers including June James, Joe Stadelmann and Malcolm Barns.
She started very young on Dynamite and then rode the mare Just Blue, who just so happened to be in foal. The resultant baby was Ranito, who became her most recognised Grand Prix horse. Virginia trained Ranito to Grand Prix while raising, with her husband, two children and heading the music department at Ivanhoe Grammar School.
Next Ginny bought and educated Cormorant McOhl (by Kilof McOhl) and Palmerston Repechage (also by Kilof) to a very high FEI standard. Virginia still teaches at Ivanhoe Grammar and for many years ran the music department; she is now their Equestrian Studies and PR Coordinator. She does all this while juggling a dressage judging program that takes her all over the country. She is also an international candidate dressage judge and gives lessons in her spare time.
She has run workshops bringing equestrian and classical music together, attended by both riders and judges.
Ginny is highly respected for her ability as a choreographer matching music to a horse’s movement, and as a determined rider who did all the work herself. Those she judges in Freestyle (dressage to music) in particular, know that she is extremely qualified to judge both music and horses.
A Level 2 dressage specialist coach and coach educator, Virginia Creed has been appointed to the Australian Dressage Judges Committee this year, and the Australian Dressage Committee.
She is a founding member of the Victorian Dressage Judges Education Panel (DJEP) and was a National Dressage Selector from 1999 – 2013.
In keeping with her teaching degree and equestrian interests, Ginny was founding chair of the Victorian Interschool Equestrian Network.
We are sure our readers have plenty to add about this talented rider who is giving back to her sport.
